My 1965 Mustang Fastback
Electric Conversion Project
This is the victim I 'll start by removing the engine and trans.
3/3/2011
Since I have made up my mind this is what I really want to do, my next step is to decide the system I should use. In looking at
various choices I think a 144 volt system will work just fine. I don't need a large range as the car will probably be shown a lot
locally. I can always trailer it for displays that are farther away.
( The system can always be upgraded at a later date.)
7/1/2011-9/25/2011
Car is still in paint & Body. I have been trying to clean up what parts I have. I have also acquired the transmission I will
be using I have that cleaned up and got the bell housing powder coated.

12/4/2011  Car came back from body and is now primed. It really looks like a new car even without paint,
My idea is to show other classic car collectors and owners that things are changing and in the not to
distant future we will no longer be able to drive our cars because of Legislation wanting to take them
off the road or different, then I feel I have done a service to help the environment and owners. I am
making this a club project to get other members involved and try to start changing the way they think
about new ideas and changes that will be coming in the future. I have gotten a great response about
the project and I think it's just a matter of time and people will start to consider alternatives if they
can see it first hand.

Contacted a few people and companies that I thought might want to help. Just have to wait and see. I will be sending out
sponsor letters and see what I can raise for funding. If I can't get parts donated maybe I can get some financial backing.
6/1/2011
Got to thinking that if the car looked better, it would attract a lot more attention and maybe backers. So checking
around; a friend and I have made a deal for the paint and body work.
6/28/2011
Since the car will be gone for a while I need to make the mounting for the batteries. As they have to be mounted within
six months.

Front Battery holder I made                                                                                                      Rear Battery Holder
8/16/2011 Car returned from Media Blasting
6/28/2011 Car Left for it's new start
sponsored 12 of their 31-PC2150 HD- Commercial Batteries. I hope I
don't disappoint them.
I want to thank Dwayne Sanchez for supplying the powder coating needed for
various parts, and arranging for the paint, media blasting, body work and painting
sponsors. This project wouldn't be as far as it is without his hard work
Thanks to Sherwin Williams for their great sponsorship of the paint and supplies to
make this project look like a show car.
Thanks to Plastic Media Stripping. Their sponsorship took the car from five colors
down to bare metal and brought out all the body damage that needed to be fixed.
Devious Designs Had the real hard part of bringing this project to life. They had to
take a banged up rust bucket and turn it into a piece of art. Between doing the body
work and the painting they are miracle workers
If you would like to be a part of this great project Contact me Larry Gareffa, at

Dan's Driveline Modified the Driveshaft to fit and helped create the motor to
trans coupler. Thanks to them we can now turn the rear wheels, and put it in
park.
12/20/2011
Took the driveshaft to Dan's Driveline to have the end changed to fit the universal joint. Also discussed the coupler
needed for the motor to trans connection. He will help with that also.
12/05/2011
Received the motor by freight. It is a Motenergy ME1002. It is rated at 144 volts.  205 Amps continuous current.
4550 RPM    89% efficiency
Thanks To SONY for their contribution of a New radio for the project. It uses
media player DSX-S310BTX.
1/15/2011
Finished the Plate and spacer for the Motor to trans coupler.  I have also found a motor to trans shaft coupler that
will save a lot of time fabricating. It is a propeller shaft coupler for a boat and the splined shaft on the clutch plate
fits perfectly into it. Dans Driveline will help put it together.
